Local musicians featured in the exhibit and photographer William May will be panelists. Jeff Duperon, jazz DJ for WRTI-FM, serves as moderator. Light refreshments. Free and open to the public.
Artist Info
William W. May — Bill — performs as a freelance double bass player in New Jersey and New York. His performing career includes 26 years with the NJ Pops Symphony Orchestra. Bill is also a prolific photographer specializing in theatre and performance, particularly of jazz musicians. He has exhibited his work in numerous galleries in North Jersey including The Priory, the WBGO Jazz 88.3FM radio studio gallery as well as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center Gallery in Willingboro, NJ.
A graduate of Montclair State University and Hunter College, Bill worked in the Newark Public Schools as a teacher and administrator for 40 years including a stint as Interim Principal at Arts HS. His last position in the district was Director of Visual and Performing Arts, which allowed him the opportunity to develop partnerships between the Newark Public Schools and musical organizations in New Jersey and New York. As a district administrator Bill served as an executive board member of CASA (City Association of Supervisors and Administrators), the Newark Public Schools’ bargaining unit for administrators.
He currently serves as an Executive Board member of Local 16 of the American Federation of Musicians.
