If this is the year you’re determined to turn your cabin into a castle, first visit the 2013 Cape May Designer Show House for inspiration. Nestled on Washington Street across from the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, you’ll find the Cavalier Cottage, a Neo-Victorian home reminiscent of the Southern Mansion or the Mainstay Inn, on a more intimate scale. The 2800-square foot home features a 900-square foot wrap-around porch, as well as a cupola gracing the low-pitched roof. In the Italianate style popular in the 1850s-’70s, the house features overhanging eaves with oversized brackets and a gracefully columned veranda, perfect for sitting and watching the world go by. Painted in a traditional and elegant off-white with Wedgewood blue trim, a custom-made, double mahogany door welcomes you to come in and visit.

More than a dozen living spaces will spotlight the creativity of local and regional designers, making the 2013 Designer Show House a must-see in Cape May.
