BEHIND THE WALLS & UNDER THE CRAWLS TROLLEY TOUR

Cape May has one of the largest concentrations of 19th century wood frame structures (over 600) in the nation. Hear about the technological advances of the Victorian era on this one-hour guided trolley tour.

CAPE MAYHEM & VICTORIAN ODDITIES TROLLEY TOUR

They Did What ??!! Headless Photography?   Electric Corsets?   Coffin Torpedoes? Explore some of the strange beliefs, superstitions, oddities,  fads, curiosities and mysteries from the end of the 19th century - the Victorian era - in this half hour trolley tour through the gaslit streets of Cape May.  Hear stories from Cape May’s history that are bizarre, unexplained or just downright weird! Tours begin and end at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth

CAPE MAY'S WILD SIDE TROLLEY TOUR

Beyond the charming Victorian homes and sandy beaches, Cape May is world-famous for its birdwatching, Monarch butterfly  migration and natural history.  Relax and be entertained in the birding capital of North America as you join Cape May Bird Observatory naturalists on a trolley tour to local “hotspots” (disembarking  at several stops), learning about the diversity, abundance (millions of birds pass through each year), geography and extensive history of this amazing area.  Co-sponsored by New Jersey Audubon’s Cape May Bird Observatory and the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities.

CHILDREN'S TROLLEY RIDE

Board MAC’s jolly red trolley for a guided tour of Cape May’s Historic District geared specially for 3 to 7 year olds. From gingerbread you can’t eat to witches’ caps on houses, kids will be fascinated by "show and tell" along the way. Trolley tours last about 30 minutes.

COMBINATION TROLLEY/PHYSICK ESTATE TOUR

Take a guided trolley tour of Cape May's Historic District, followed by a guided tour of Cape May's only Victorian house museum, the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. Combination Trolley/Physick Estate Tours last about 2 hours. Admission includes the Carriage House Gallery at the Physick Estate.

GHOSTS OF CAPE MAY TROLLEY TOUR

MANSIONS BY THE SEA TROLLEY TOUR

This tour features a century of beachfront development, from Victorian cottages of the 1870s through the most up-to-date of today's housing. It includes some of the most magnificent structures ever put up in Cape May. Wheelchair accessible trolley tours are offered, subject to availability.

MOONLIGHT TROLLEY RIDE

Victorians tended to sentimentalize even the most mundane things, from teacups to toothbrushes. Take this romantic trolley ride along the beachfront and through the heart of the Historic District, under the light of the full moon and hear tales of Victorian courtship. Sunday,  Tour begins and ends at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth.

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TROLLEY TOUR

April 28 – November 10

Climb aboard our newest trolley tour to hear true tales of Cape May’s connection to the Underground Railroad.. Hear how enslaved people in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia braved strong currents and stormy seas to free themselves, guided by the beacon of the Cape May Lighthouse. Hear why the legendary Harriet Tubman walked these streets before her freedom runs to the Eastern Shore. See the summer refuge of the formerly enslaved Stephen Smith, one of America’s wealthiest businessmen whose railroad cars ferried hundreds to freedom. Includes a tour of the Owen Coachman house, a meticulously restored antebellum home of a free Black family whose relative was kidnapped and sold into slavery. Board the trolley at the Washington Street Mall information booth at Ocean Street for this 2-hour tour. No rest rooms are available during this 2-hour tour.

Network to Freedom is a program of the National Park Service to coordinate preservation and education efforts nationwide, and integrate local historical places, museums, and interpretive programs associated with the Underground Railroad into a mosaic of community, regional, and national stories.
